2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined direction.
The president expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
The news follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the full content from the president's memo:
Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the necessity for a clearer identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The trust in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. After several months of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most popular titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting him soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of the game in the months to come.
David
